Hi there i have issue with sony vio can connect to wireless cant browse but the thing is when i connect to wireless hotspot i can browse tried 2 differnt modems same issue and the signal strength on wireless is full can ping modem fine, cant ping any other ip or trace route come back saying unable to resolve. Connecting with ethernet works fine my iphone can connect to router fine.

Spend lot of time trouble shooting still cant get it going

Any help with this will be great

Ill break it down a bit better and explain the situation as this is my mates problem.

Any help with this would be great - we work lvl 1 support

customer has a sony vaio laptop

customer has 2 modem/router to test- 1 dlink and 1 netgear

ethernet is ok

laptop detects wireless and connects successfully and shows internet access but internet will not work

customer has an iphone - iphone can however connect to the wireless and can browse the internet
-customer then tried to create a wifi hotspot with the iphone and connect the laptop to it
-funnily enough the laptop can connect to the hotspot and browses fine

ping to modem is fine
ping to other addresses fail
traceroute unable to resolve.

If you can ping the router but cannot ping a FQDN then it sounds like a DNS issue - which OS is the laptop using? check the DNS is on obtain automatically not manual settings in the IPv4 settings of the wireless card.

On the Sony when connected to wireless but can't access the internet what does ipconfig and route print show?

1: Open command prompt
2: ipconfig /all
3: route print
