Hi people,
I have found out there is a firmware update for my D-Link DSL-G604T modem.
D-Link has the download so I now have it on my computer.
D-Link says to open it using WinZip or such.
Trouble is, it seems to be an uncompressed file. (not sure about that).
Win7 64 bit doesn't recognize the file.

The downloaded file is "DLinkAU_DSLG604T_singleimage_kernel_fs_V3.02B01T01.AU.20091223"

Has anybody got an idea how I can proceed please?

Hi, if you have downloaded the .zip file, then it will appear as a folder once on your machine, albeit a folder with a zip icon, you can then right click and extract, no winzip is needed with Win7.

I thought the download was a zip but I think it is meant to be read by the setup that the Modem/Router uses as a Tool menu thingy. 10.1.1.1 and then go to Tools/Firmware and take it from there.
Sorry about the hassle. My brain finally caught up to the instructions. (I think)

Is there a particular issue you are trying to fix by updating the firmware? If not I would avoid flashing new firmware, its likely its only bug fixes and the chances of you bricking the device are reasonably high.

It's not 'flashing' the firmware. He isn't loading gargoyle or DD-WRT. He will only be using the Web GUI upgrade page which you can't go wrong with.

Just take that file you downloaded from d-link. Go to the upgrade page on the router. Upload the file. And then done. Don't upload a .zip. It will be some other type of file like a .bin or maybe something completely different.

Sure ;) Power goes out halfway through the flash he'll be fine....

Lol ok fair call. But come on, what are the chances. There is an extremely high chance that it will be fine.

It's 50/50 that it'll brick it I've done 10 and 5 were bricked for no apparent reason all looked to be going good until the reboot at which point 5 died my recomendation if you need to update a firmware for an old Dlink DSL modem/router then throw it out and buy something newer

My son had the pre-adsl2+ version and I updated the firmware the correct way, after realizing the file was to be used directly and not unzipped. I even asked D-Link for advice and they told me what I should have realized.

The updated unit updated properly, but was only intermittantly connectable so it got chucked.
I'm buying a new unused unit from Brisbane for the same price as cheap newies ($35 + frt) so if it gets rid of my own intermitant (damn I cant spell that word) drop out I'll be happy.
