Seeing you have a MVP here and I can't find the answer by reading the posts and your very fine guides I'll try the direct approach...

Equipment:

iPAQ rx5965 BT/Wireless/GPS on chip WM5

Laptop HP DV5121TX - Widcomm BT/Wireless XP Pro sp2

iPAQ & PC paired and services discovered short cuts set up for BT serial COM, Activesync, Fileshare and Network Access

Now I can get a connection with the COM although can't do anything with it! once or twice I got the BT activesync to work the fileshare always works but the network access does not.

I am using MS Activesync 4.5 beta and with the usb cable works all the time

When I initiate a connection from the ipaq for network access to share an internet connection I can hear and see a connection established but the cancel.

I can connect the ipaq to the internet with PIE and inbuilt ipaq wireless.

I am connected by ADSL and have a D-Link wireless router which has the ip 192.168.0.1 which stops me ICSing the net work card on the pc although I have changed the routers ip address and then set the card to ICS with the BT adapter but still no BT connection and my system went real slow... so I changed it back

I have manually set the the BT adapter on the pc to IP 192.168.0.1 SN 255.255.255.0 the BT on the ipaq is set to get server IP address.

A dump of my config with wireless and BT active on the pc is as follows.

Welcome to Geekzone...

What are you trying to accomplish? It's quite hard to figure it out from your post.

First, make sure your Bluetooth adapter is connected to a USB port, not a USB HUB. Then open Device Manager and make sure the Power Management option for all USB Root HUB are unchecked (you don't want the PC to turn power down on these devices).

If you are trying to access ActiveSync, make sure the ActiveSync Connection Settings (on your PC) is using a valid COM port (as defined on your PC). There's no need to configure any COM port on your Pocket PC.

Delete the partnership from your Pocket PC, and create it again (from your Pocket PC). This will cause the ActiveSync icon to spin a bit, and your Pocket PC will identify this partnership as ActiveSync capable.

Make sure you have no Firewall software blocking Bluetooth communications. And make sure you are not running Microsoft Live One Care because it blocks ActiveSync.

As for network access, if you can access over Wi-Fi, why bother with Bluetooth? The range on Wi-Fi can be as good as 200 m (or more), while Bluetooth is very limited (10 m or less) - and very complicated to setup if you can't use ICS.

Sorry for my rambling first post I was trying to give as much info as possible.

I have no problems with USB and activesync.

All I was trying to do was to use the internet from my PC with the use of BT on the iPAQ, you are right, why bother when I can do that by wireless..... a bit like climbing a mountain, because it is there!

Anyway, thanks for you reply

Season greetings

You can try a couple of things if you want it really:

- Use Windows Bridge, instead of ICS to configure the connection on your PC (and make sure the Widcomm software is configured as "Allow Network Access" instead of "Allow Internet Access" or

- Connect to ActiveSync over Bluetooth (as described in my first reply) and this will automatically provide Internet access to your Pocket PC (exactly like the connection over USB does).

Cheers!
