Hi all.
I have a wireless modem/router at home.

My daughter got an iPod Touch for Christmas and I would like to have some control over the hours she spends on the internet with it, I figure the easiest way would be to control her access to the wi-fi network.

I have two options as I see it, since there are no easy methods of setting up the iPod directly;
1/ Set up a second wi-fi network for her use (and kick her off the current one) and have this physically switch on and off with a programmable power controller. A bit crude but it should work OK I think.
2/ Try to find a programmable unit to replace our existing one that could somehow control her access.

I know very little about networks and don't know if option 2 is possible.

As further information, the router I have installed is a Linksys WAG200G Annex-A.

Any comment and advice would be gratefully received.

Thanks
Ian

The Apple AirPort range allows you to set "timed access" based on the MAC address (unique device ID). I don't have experience with other brands, but it's definitely possible if you have hardware that supports it.

Gargoyle is what you would want. It is third party firmware that can be loaded on to some routers. I don't think your Linksys would run it but you could look at some of the TP-Link models or the Asus RT-N16 at the higher end.

Yip your router will do what you want, log in to the router and go to "access restrictions"

From there you can set policies (times etc) for each device using the network
It will look like this

Except that will deny everyone access, not just your daughters iPod.

No, you only put the ipod in the list of PCs in the "edit list of PCs" button in the 2nd section....

Great, thanks for that, I'll try to configure the router I have as wellygary suggests and see how I get on.
I'll report back.

Ah cool. That's a good feature.
