Hi There!

I am looking for a Home User suitable solution to stop one PC (mac address) from anything except web surfing, or if that isn't possible all access to the internet during specific times?

ADSL Connection. Would prefer something out of the box, rather than a specific firmware based solution.

Anyone know if the major vendors have that functionality built in?

The parental access controls on Win7 let you set allowed operating hours for specific non-admin user accounts. I use it for my kids, it logs them off a half hour before bed-time, and won't let them log on til later the next morning. You can also white list web-sites etc.

Most routers have some forms of access controls,

I know that the linksys WAG200G will do what you want, but I also suspect that many others will too..

I use Microsofts Family Safety system to limit my daughters usage etc.

Yah I don't want to do it on the PC, as the user is a teenager with reasonable technical skills. Hopefully if we set it on the router then we can set a password and he won't be able to change it.

I know you said no specific firmware based, but Gargoyle really is awesome for this.

with little technical skills someone can over come your lock down, if you let port 443 (SSL / HTTPS traffic). It easy to setup a VPN over SSL and tunnel all traffic down the VPN there by passing your lock down. Cutting off internet is best, but if they have a smartphone then it easy to use that to get onto the internet now days.

Yup. They will have to monitor the situation and adjust accordingly.
