Hi there,

I have two wireless routers both of huawei of models : B683 & B970b i have two printers connected to the B970b one which i wanna access which being connected to the B683 i tried bridging as i googled it and but in the B683 router the option of access point and bridging isnt there where as in B970b one the option exists when i am changing the selection from access point to Bridge the wireless router B970b no more shows in the internet connectivity menu however which isnt the same case with the B683 router.

However i cannot bridge the B970b with B683 as i access internet from B970b where as i want to bridge the B683 to B970b such that the B683 no-more is an access point.

i even tried changing the Default gateway of the BG683 to 192.168.1.2 by keeping 192.168.1.1 ip of BG970b.
the only way around comes into my mind is swapping the sim card of both the routers and the B970b as bridge to B683 as the sim would be swapped i would be able to access internet from B683.however it would be starting from the scratch can anybody suggest me some other work around please....

hi once again,

i am bridging two wireless networks basically b'coz i wanna be able to use the printers connected with Eithernet cable on the router Huawei B683 while i am been connected to the second router Huawei B970b which have an internet connection accessible.

Now after my extensive googling and research i have found that the routers can be bridged and i wanna make the router B970b a wireless bridge to B683 so that all the users could be able to connect to it and hence the printer accessing issue would be resolved.

All i wanna know is can i Put the IP address of the B970b in the setting>dialup>APN>Ipaddress of the wireless router B683,will it be able to access the internet on the router B970 which is wirelessly bridged?

I have attached an image for better understanding and please note both these router have been provided by the same service provide.please follow the link for image

Hi, yes you can bridge these, I assume you have a cat5e or cat6 cable connecting between these. Simply turn the DHCP server on the 2nd router (right one in you picture) off, and connect it to the first router via one of its lan ports, in other words connect a lan port of the first router to a lan port of the second router, nothing connects to the Wan port of the 2nd router.

To make managing the 2nd router easier it is useful to make its Lan port address within the subnet of the first router, but outside its DHCP pool.

Bascially, as can be noticed i tried to bridge two wireless routers wirelessly after extensive research i came two that they cannot be bridged now i am trying to connect those two routers throught a cat5 cross-over cable and i wanted to know whether can i disable the DHCP on the router which have internet and enable the DHCP of the router which is connected to printers b'coz i have a few systems that shouldnt be connected to the internet.

what i had in mind is if i switch the DHCP OFF on the internet router and turn it ON on the huawei B683 router i can add those devices MAC addresses to the internet gateway router to deny the access to the internet..? such that those nodes wouldnt have an access to the internet despite the two router being connected

Hi you don't need a crossover cable a straight one is fine, but either should work. You can have the DHCP server active in either router, as long as only one exists within the network. Personally I would only put it in the gateway router that connects to the internet, you should still be able to apply Mac rules to either.

hi there,

The IP address of the router B970b is 192.168.1.1 and B683 is 192.168.1.2 i think they are in the same network....should i change the ip address of either one of them to 192.168.2.1..?

Basically the thing is i want to have access to internet and printers at the same time,as i have the B970b which has the access to internet and the printers are connected to B683 router through a LAN cable and if i have to give out a print while i am on the surfing internet i have to first migrate to another network and then give out the print which is not productive at all and i cant connect the printers directly to the B970b router as they are separated by a long distance as printers are in one cornor of the room and the B970b router is on the other net.

Hence i thought of bridging two wireless routers wirelessly after research i found that feature isnt compatable with the make and model of routers that i have.Hence i have switch the option of connecting both the routers throught a striaght through cable.

But one question strikes me...lets say i have changed the ip address to 192.168.2.1 of either one of those two routers and have connected them through straight through cable should i have to make the router with internet B970b as access point and the B683 as wirelelss bridge (or) both of them can independently function with their DHCP's still enables and i can still have the access to the printer when i am connected to B970b router....?

Just to let you know the two routers mentioned above i.e., Huawei B970b and huawei B683 are wireless gateways routers and I also do have a Linksys WAG200G ADSL router although its not used anywhere but please do suggest me a way around if it could be utilised can i connect two printers to this ADSL router and connect the huawei B970b through this very ADSL router coz the Huawei B683 wireless gateway was also serving the same purpose of providing printer access can it be replaced by the Linksys WAG200G ADSL router that i have..?

know its a lot to ask....thank your for your time.

Hi, leave the two IP addresses as they are, it makes it easier to admin. The IP address of the one with dhcp off is only for access to the internal web server for admin. Don't forget to adjust the working DHCP server to be 192.168.1.20 - 192.168.1.254, this leaves you a set of static addresses .1.3 -.1.19 for your printers and servers etc.

Only one DHCP server is allowed in the network, as its a layer2 bridge you have created, and don't forget nothing connects to the wan port of the router without the internet connection, the bridge goes to one of its plan ports.

I come Bearing Good News..

i connected the two routers as i have planned it through a straight-through cable and guess what it worked perfectly fine.....now i have acces to printers and also to the net..

Issue is officially resolved..... Thank you for all your support guys espically Cyril7...i really appreciate it...cheers
