Hi all

Having some problems with my tp link

Me and my brother have decide to start to play LAN games because he has brought a new laptop that can play them they worked fine with his old laptop and that had vista on it and the only game we could play was AOE2 now that he has up graded to win 8 nothing works apart form splinter cell 3 it runs fine in any network configuration

I have assined static ip address to his laptop and to my PC sharing options are all enabled so are his but his laptop wont join my home group

current configs are this

MY PC

IP 192.168.1.110
Subnet 255.255.255.0
Default gateway 192.168.1.1
DNS 192.168.1.1

LAPTOP
IP 192.168.1.120
Subnet255.255.255.0
Default gateway 192.168.1.1
DNS 192.168.1.1

NOTE IF I CHANGE THE D/G OF THE PC TO THE LAPTOP IP AND VICE VERSEA AOE2 WORKS BUT WE HAVE NO INTERNET ACCESS FOR EITHER DEVICE DON'T WANT TO DO THIS EVERY TIME WE PLAY

fire walls have exemptions for the programs we are using going both ways for all the games and sharing

Router

Firmware Version:1.3.6 Build 100830 Rel.58063nHardware Version:TD-W8960N v1 0x00000001
Does this need an update if so to what

DEFAULT IP ON ROUTER IS 192.168.1.1

Router has DHCP enabled for for other other devices IP start at 192.168.1.150 to 192.168.1.200
And how can I get internet access for both PC and laptop whilst still assign static ip addresses and have a LAN that we can play games on

Thanks all to who ever can help

What network configuration options are there within the game itself?

I see the AOE2 website has documented windows networking issues. Tried there?

Yes solved the problem it was a QoS  issue when i assigned static IP's on the router issue for some strange reason there was a problem with the settings of that not  the LAN settings so I think the thing is fixed tested it twice and I think that it is the problem solved so I'll test some more tomorrow

AOE2 is the most temperamental headache I've ever had to troubleshoot in a LAN situation.

Sometimes it works fine.  Next day, it will like everyone's connection but two at the table who will need to sit out.  Sometimes, we can't see anyone connected.  I've spent hours and hours trying to work out what goes wrong.  These days, I just pray that it works when I go to LAN events or play with friends over the internet.

Have fun!

Think I've found a solution Had 7 friends over  to LAN party and only four of them worked as they were clean installs 3 of us couldn't play so we played COD but that game crashed so I said try AOE2 again and sure enough it worked I am 90% sure that the TCP\IP protocols wont connect for the game to start some times   so we all changed our IP's and tried again and sure enough didn't work played COD for 10mins went back to AOE2 and it worked so there is some thing wrong with that side of it

CAN WE find out more the  AOE and Microsoft web site doesn't help at all even though they made the game with faulty LAN/TCP\IP issue

Thanks guys for all your help

AOE2 was released like 14 years ago in 1999, not totally unexpected there are LAN troubles on new machines especially on Windows 7 and 8.

FYI:
If you have legit AOE2 cd keys you can redeem them on Steam for AOE2 HD which uses Steam's networking/matching system instead of LAN (note: You need an active internet connection), that might be something you want to look into.
