Hi all,

I have a Telecom Technicolor TG582n router and a few devices using it via WLAN.
All devices can connect fine and use WiFI to access tthe internet.

The problem is I cannot access the devices on the local network from another local network.
So for example from 192.168.1.71 connecting to 192.168.1.75.

I can however access the machine using the external IP address I have with portmapping set-up..
I wonder what setting on the Technicolor TG582n is stopping the local devices on WiFi to communicate which each other..

When I do a tracert from one device to the other it will tell me Destination Host Unavailable...
(It looks to me that the router just bluntly routes all traffic to the internet....

This makes the router nearly uses for me, I would like to access my networde device like camera, Ninja Blocks etc from my laptop without having to go "out to the internet"....

Anybody any clues? Telecom help desk is useless, they just dont have the technical skills.

Had the same problem with mine. Couldn't see my TiVo and visa versa most of the time. Was ok with the previous Netcomm router. In the finish I bought a TP-Link and never looked back. Replaced the TG852 with a new one but keeping it as a spare as it has a T-Stick port..

Thanks old3eyes. What did you replace it with?

I sort of expect Telecom to provide working equipment?

The router is very rarely the problem in these cases. Maybe the reason a new router 'works' is that it comes set up correctly?

There are many causes for the Destination Host Unreachable, but, basically, the target IP address is just not found so an ARP request is not completed.

Have a good read of the results of a google for destination host unreachable. Plenty of help there.

Although not the same issue it's the same modem but ours just simply drops the connection (complete ADSL not just wireless) multiple times a day making it really frustrating to use at times. Sadly being the only wireless N modem in the house I am reluctant to swap it back to just a wireless G.

@linw :thx but the router is BRAND new... It looks like it doesnt allow any communication between the local network's pcs..

Network is 192.168.1.xxx subnet 255.255.255.0

Router sits at 192.168.1.254

Looks like the router just sends all IP traffic straight to the external telecom node....
ANy of my devices can't see anohter in the local range: laptops, phones and tablets alll the same problem...

The router interface doesn't give me an option to do anything on routing tables.
Switching the firewall off doesn't solve it..

I can access any node if ip set up IP PORT mapping, so the problem IS IN THE ROUTER...
Telecom support is useless: "Why would you want to access local machines?"

About the terminate the ADSL contract if this doesnt get resolved...
Telecom should provide a normal, non restricted router with proepr configuration...

I know it sounds corny, but have you reset the TG582?

So, you can't ping (get unreachable reply?) any other local IP addresses?

At comd prompt. What does ipconfig /all show?

Run arp -a. This will display addresses it can see. Any shown in the proper subnet? Probably not if you are getting Host Unreachable.

@linw : I was away for a few days and found that my router is now "behaving differenty"...
I shows that the internet connection has been reset 2 days ago...
I have a different IP address from Telecom as well.

arp -a now shows local machines, which it did not do before...
Looks like it works now, very very strange...

But no complaints...

A friend had weird lan issues with their freebe router from telecom - not sure of the type.

I just gave them my old netgear configured with the same ssid and wpa2 key so that things didnt get too hard for them and everything came right. Bluray could see the media player dlna stuff again, and their itunes wifi sync started working again, which was not before.
