H. So I have purchased a roku3 and connected via ethernet cable to a TP Link WR1043ND.
the 1043 in turn is connected via ethernet to the Huawei Home Hub.

I set up the TP Link as an access point, (different IP address to Home Hub, but same group?
Home hub is 192.168.1.1
TP link is 192.168.1.2

both have the same WiFi SSID and pasword, so you can wander about from one to the other.

I have changed the TP Link's primary and secondary DNS to UnBlock US. but perhaps that is the bit not working?

the roku tells me I cannot download the NetFlix app in my region.
any obvious problems here?

tried to subscribe from my desktop computer- with the DNS pointing to Unblock US locally.
I can watch Netflix on this, but when I try to subscribe to Netflix through my Roku account comes up with the same region problem.

I wonder if when you link a Roku box if that sets the region as well ? a little confusing

Which router is the DHCP server? (ipconfig /all)
What DNS servers are your devices being assigned? (ipconfig /all)

I am guessing that the TP-Link is doing nothing but acting as a switch/access point and the Huawei device is your actual router. You need to put the Unblock-US servers in to the Huawei.

other devices get them from the Huawei, which is the Vodafone DNS settings

that would be right.
other forum users have done a similar set up, but I make need to invoke DD-WRT firmware to make it possible?

settings in the Huawei are a little complex I think...have tried to point to the UnBlock US DNS but I suspect no luck.

When setting up your roku account you need to make sure you are behind unblockUS or it detects you are from NZ and blocks alot of things

I think the first step is to definitively set up the second router and confirm it is using the UNBlock US DNS

The settings in the Huawei should be fairly straight forward.

You need to navigate to the LAN settings. Then look for the DHCP server settings. Then in those settings set the first DHCP server to be Unblock-US and the second one to a vodafone one or just set it to google.

If there isn't a setting to change the DNS servers in that area look at the WAN settings and see if you can edit them there. The Huawei might force you to have it's own IP given out as the DNS server. In that case the Huawei will then look at the WAN connection to see what DNS servers are provided.

On my 2nd router I use a VPN rather than unblock, and specifically have a separate SSID

In your case I dont think you'll want to roam between your 2 routers

That shouldn't worry anything though unless the TP-Link is doing some layer 3 duties. If it is set up simply as a layer 2 switch/access point it won't matter at all where the devices are connected. If however the TP-Link is set up incorrectly and is still doing DHCP or NAT it may be handing out different info to devices connected through it - this would be a problem.
