Does anyone please know of a good choice of wireless broadband router? I recently purchased a Linksys WRT54G v7 and have been battling with trying to connect through it to my work PPTP VPN. Linksys have been unable to help despite several (sometimes bizzare) attempts to reconfigure port triggering, MTU size, PPTP passthrough, firmware etc. I am at the point of putting the WRT54G on trademe and buying a replacement.

I need a Wireless G (or B&G) Broadband router (with inbuilt firewall) to connect to my TelstraClear cable modem and it must support PPTP & GRE protocol passthrough. The GRE is very important as the WRT54G apparently supports PPTP passthrough but not GRE.

Any suggestions kind people?

Thanks in advance

any wifi router based on a recent Linux kernel should support multiple PPTP/GRE VPN passthrough

does openWRT run on your WRT54G?

Hmm it seems not, every other WRT54G is supported except version 7 which I have!

I will keep that in mind when getting a new router though, thanks.

PPTP is used for the authentication and GRE session management, there should not be any instance of PPTP pass through being supported but not GRE pass through on a device to my knowledge.

Of course thats not to say the implementation on your configuration is broken.

Suggest trying the latest firmware and confirming that PPTP pass through it selected and not 1723 TCP NAT.
