Hi guys,

I have a cheap TP-LINK W8950ND thqat I'm trying to bridge to my new WR1043ND running DD-WRT.

Settings on TP Modem:

VPI / VCI 0/100
VX/MUX
Bridging

Settings on TL router:

PPPoE (no PPPoA I assume this is ok)
Snap ADSL username / password - definitely correct as the modem authenticates perfectly without bridging.

There is a lot of people saying the WAN port doesn't work on some versions however the WAN port works fine using DHCP from the modem.

Can anyone see what I'm doing wrong?

The term you are looking for is 'half bridge'.

Your modem will still have your provider's authentication details in it and it will simpyl pass the public address to the WRT router using DHCP.

I'm not familiar with that model but you should use PPPoA, 0/100 but some where along that set up look for the term half bridge or 'PPP IP Extension'. That will mean the modem will still dial the PPP connection but all routing functions will be disbaled.
Then on your WRT router simply make the WAN get an address by DHCP.

Thanks you very much I've tried that but it's still not working. The WAN connection is working correctly as I can connect to the TP-LINK Modem while physically connected to the half bridged router. I have enabled on modem:

PPP IP Extension
PPPoA - with credentials

Anything look wrong now? Thank you!

Can't see any of the pictures in this post.

Chevrolux is correct, see this old page (for the RTA1320, but the principle is the same):

Just for information, a much better solution is the Draytek Vigor 120 ADSL modem.

It has a PPPoE to PPPoA full bridge mode.

This allows the router/firewall to actually do the PPPoE log in to your ISP.

All working now, I just needed to refresh the lease and it updated with the WAN IPs.

I will look into a full bridge set-up next year when I move to VDSl.

Yea half bridge is a bit of a hack and works different across different brands.

If you are moving to VDSL in the future you could look at a Draytek DV130 which is ADSL/VDSL capable as well as able to do PPPoA to PPPoE conversion for full bridging ADSL. That way when it comes to moving to VDSL it won't mean any more mucking around.
