Hello everybody,

For the past few years, I have been trying to port forward my Telecom TG585 V8 router. It has given me so much grief and pain. I mainly wanted to use it, so that I could set up gaming servers, such as minecraft. I watched and followed the instructions of many people on the internet, also youtube videos explaining and guiding me through. So far I have had NO success. I have even stopped playing call of duty on my ps3, because It appears that no one is in a game for me, and I cannot connect to any peoples lobbies, that DO have port forwarded routers. I really want... ***NEED*** to sort out this problem straight away! Can some body please help me, and/or guide me through the steps of how I can port forward my router to make it have: OPEN ports? I am starting to loose faith in my computing skills, I may actually have to phone a technical support line. If you can provide any information or help with my problem, for the love of God, Please reply to this thread!

My thanks,

Garlotch.

I could never get my old Telecom modem to port forward correctly but I'd hope that they've made their newer ones much better.

I'm happy to have a go via TeamViewer if you'd like? PM me your ID and I'll do my best.

A lot of routers will only do the port forwarding to internal IPs that have been assigned by the router itself via DHCP .. so if you have hard set IPs on machines inside your network that might be why you are having issues.  I got around it in the past by making the DHCP server assigned each host the same IP every time, then port forwarding worked nicely.

The TG585 uses a retarded form of NAT called Symmertic NAT that causes problems with p2p and online gaming.

It can possibly be fixed via telnet and CLI cmd's, eg:

However, Telecom will probably give you their new Huawei unit for free if you ring them up and tell them you're having problems with the TG585.
