Whilst I understand completely why wired speeds are faster than wireless, I cannot fathom why the wireless ping is faster than wired. I'm sure there is a perfectly logical reason that will lead me to s "duh" moment!

You're comparing the ping on two different devices, that's not really comparing apples with apples.

is this over vdsl too by chance?

This could be the "duh" moment. I thought 'ping' measured the time for a packet to make trip to the server regardless of the device. But then , the first amplifier I built glowed with valves, so technology now easily confuses, as did pnp and npn transistors when they first appeared!

Yep, it is VDSL, and the wireless is a 5Ghz connection, should that make a difference to your assessment.

not at all.

upload speeds alone, best your going to manage on VDSL real world in a speedtest under 10Mbit due to the max speed set on all vdsl profiles.

if you want to look at pings, ild look at pings to locations, traceroute to trademe.co.nz etc (pay attention to make sure one device isnt going to a different POP)

Try pinging something on your local network, if your wireless ping times are better on your local network your wired equipment i.e. computer or switch has an issue.

Pinging something online using an app isn't going to give accurate results as each app might use completely different servers which has very different routing paths.

Thank you BTR. Wired ping on local network MUCH faster than wireless, so all systems good and physics rules...OK!
