Hi Folks,

I'm pulling my hair out here with trying to get my HBH-35 headset to work with my vaio. I can connect the device and authenticate it, but it doesn't appear in the list when choosing the Sound Playback and Sound Recording in the Audio settings.

I've upgraded Bluespace NE to version 3.3.00.10140 and the Bluetooth Driver and Application software to version 1.02. Both downloaded from the Sony Vaio Support site.

Does anyone have any ideas with what I could do.

Oh and it's Windows XP SR1 as my OS.

Thanks,
Donnie

I don't have access to some documentation here, but just pairing is not enough. Are you sure the Sony Bluespace supports the headset profile?

I'm having the same problem. How do you tell if the Sony supports the "headset profile?"

I got a reply from Sony Support who said that there is no headset profile support in Bluespace NE and they have no solution to the problem. Oh sorry yes they did have a 'solution'. It was: go get another bluetooth dongle that does support headset profiles.

Very lame if you ask me!

Lame, I agree. So what does that mean? Buy a Bluetooth headset that has a USB dongle so that provides the profile that the Vaio lacks? What's a dongle, anyway?

A dongle is a kind of hardware that plugs into a computer port. This was the name given to some hardware keys used to protect software, connected to a parallel port. These days we use the word dongle to designate some USB devices, like the memory keys, some network adapters and the Bluetooth adapters. Check the image below:

Thanks, that's what I figured. And will the dongle allow me to use the Bluetooth device even though the Vaio doesn't support the headset profile?

Most users have bought dongles with the Widcomm software for this. Version 1.3 and up should support the Headset profile. Quality is not the best in the world, though.
