Hey all
Not 100% if this should be in Networking or Android forums

Looking for some help to see if i can do more testing wise prior to sending phone in for repair... well oddly enough phones as wifes s3 is doing the same thing.

Wifi fine and reliable up till couple weeks ago. Apps like Gmail and facebook say they are refreshing, often finish or time out i guess, and nothing new shows up. Turn wifi off, and do via data and it works fine.
Games like clash of clans etc that rely on network, display icon saying network issues.

I automatically assumed modem, so changed channels, changed security stuff, changed 300mb/s to 150mbs speed all had no effect. What is wierd is it says its connected to wifi, doesnt complain to say its not there, but have noticed if i watch a tv program on phone streaming from nas box, it sometimes said connected to pauly2 network once or twice... which is odd cause it never froze or paused, and i don't have setting checked to use data vs wifi if wifi unavailable checked (well not an option on my older software vs wifes newer one)
It seemed to work fine for a few minutes, to maybe an hour or so if i restarted modem however since found if i just turn phone wifi off then back on it seems to work for a period of time after too doesn't need to be modem restart

However, other wifi devices fine, xbox, wdtv used almost every night streaming from nas via wifi without any issues, despite when it wont work for phones, Samsung tab fine etc so it seems to be just the phones
Ive tried changing from DNS to static etc wifi timer is not on etc nothing changed
removed any recent apps like avg and speedtest... about only apps other than email for fb that are the same. no changed

had phone in safe mode overnight and in morning it didn't load a couple of web pages but if waited 2-3mins it did... so its as if its 'connected' but only sometimes works.

wierd thing is, wifes s3 does same.

Only plan i have to try is change modem, which a kind GP fellow is giving me one of those freebie Vodafones which i assume will work fine with telecom. Other than that... im out of ideas

Try it on another wifi access point, ideally in another location. I have a friend who had an S3 mini that didn't work well with on access point, but was fine with an old Linksys 54GL.

for silly ppl like me   ....   would changing router also do this test?    its wierd that worked 100% reliable  then both around same time became constant issues   i.e can turn off and on  maybe 10times a night just to get a few hours  of use.
