I'm really having a problem trying to get my Palm T|X to HotSync with my Toshiba Laptop via Bluetooth.  I can get the two devices to pair okay.  Using the Bluetooth software that came with the Bluetooth USB adapter I can set the device to a COM Port as required.   I can also set the PDA with the HotSync Setup to the Laptop.  After checking all the requirements by the detailed instructions on the Palm web site Knowledge Base and likewise with the Belkin Bluetooth USB Knowledge Base it still doesn't work.  Note: when I sent them emails to ask for help, they just referred to their Knowlege Bases.

When I press the HotSync button on the PDA it shows it's connecting with the laptop, but then after a few seconds I get the same error message saying: "Unable to initiate HotSync operation because the port is in use by another application."

Now this brings up more questions regarding the laptop.  I have set the Bluetooth Configuration to make the Bluetooth USB adapter into a serial device which is required according to Palm.   When doing this the only choice I get for a COM Port is COM7.  I get no other choices.  I don't know where COM1 thru COM6 are.  None of these show up in the pull-down menu choices in the configuration.   So I chose the only one which is COM7.

One of my first questions is when I go into the Device Manager on the Laptop why don't I see any serial Ports?  The only time I do is when I've activated (turned on) the Bluetooth Adapter.  Then I see this Port (COM7) in the Hardware Device Manager list.

The only place I see any reference to the COM Ports is when I look at the internal modem under the Device Manager and check the Advanced Settings it shows it's using COM3.  When I pull up the Port Number dropdown list It shows COM3.  They below it are COM4 thru COM8 shown as all (in use).

Can anyone please give me any ideas?

Have you created this as a SERVER (Incoming) COM port? You must have it as a inbound port, assign it on Hotsync and then start the sync from your device...
