Hey guys

First post but have gained so much valuable info from this site over the years.

Had a wee bit of a search and couldn't find much, but I was wondering if it was possible to do the following:

-Have just had fibre installed (100/20) and had the old spark-supplied HG630b router.
-Have also got a second HG630b lying around from previous ADSL broadband.
-The fibre install meant that my ONT had to be installed at a very un-optimal area for wi-fi range.

Am I able to set up my second hg630b as a wireless repeater midway through the house, without having to plug it into the original router via ETH, or does it lack the functionality. Or should I just man up and buy a wireless repeater :)

Thanks in advance

Nick

repeaters are bad for speed as they halve the throughput

why not buy a Ethernet over power kit and put the second 630 where it will provide the best coverage and connect it back via the EoP adapters?

Don't buy a Wireless repeater - you might-as-well buy a better, more grunty router instead.

Personally, I use the XClaim XI-3 Wireless access point which you just plug into your existing router, disable WiFi on it and use the XClaim for WiFi. They're incredibly powerful which actually means I get WiFi at the train station which is shy of 200m from my house. The only downsides are they're $300 (available from PBTech) but if you want the best WiFi this is always something to consider.

Otherwise, as others stated a powerline adapter and another wireless access point might be the best option for you. This isn't always the best thing for speed however.
