Hi All,

I have just got my vodafone fibre broadband and promptly replaced the huawei HG659 router with a asus RT-AC68U router, the problem is my phone line used to plug into the huwei router, is there anyway I can keep the huawei plugged in to just keep the phone functional, I have turned the wifi off internally in the huawei so there will be no wifi clashes with my asus. Could I make this work by doing LAN to LAN or LAN to WAN bridging?

You probably can.

you will need to turn off the likes of DHCP and give the huawei HG659 a Static IP in the range of the Asus router.

I'm trying to do the same thing with a TP150 from slingshot. The problem I've encountered is there doesn't seem to be a way to set a default gateway for the TP when it's sitting on the LAN behind the new router. So the SIP service can't route to the server

yeah i have tried setting it up LAN to LAN bridge but I dont know if im missing something. I set up a static ip and turned off all DHCP on the slave(huawei) router

I think you'll find that the VoIP circuit terminates on the WAN interface.

Spyware: I think you'll find that the VoIP circuit terminates on the WAN interface.

Check it for a POTS RJ11 interface (may be labelled as an FXO Port)

Otherwise you could configure it for an ip endpoint with a static IP address on your network ( lots of cheap analogue ip to analogue adapters available)

This. The VoIP will be routed out through the WAN, so the old trick of turning off DHCP, assigning a static IP and connecting to a LAN port to use as an AP is not likely to work.

You'll need to connect the WAN port to one of the LAN ports of your primary router, and hope that everything traverses the double NAT OK - the things to watch out for are failed incoming calls, and one way audio.

Just plug your phone line into the Fiber ONT thats how ive got my phone line setup and works great, also if you are messing around with setting and need to restart your router you wont lose your phone line.

Just plug your phone line into the Fiber ONT thats how ive got my phone line setup and works great, also if you are messing around with setting and need to restart your router you wont lose your phone line.

Bad advice. OP is using Vodafone. Plugging the phone into the ONT won't do anything.

Vodafone don't use the ONT ports, they use the RGW, so this will not work.

Im not sure what an ONT port is or a RGW i dont claim to know everything. What i do know is that i have a ONT where the fiber is converted to copper, which has 4 rj45 ports for your internal network and only port 1 works and it also has 2 pots ports for your phone connection. If you check out the link below from the vodafone website which shows a typical installation and they show an installed Chorus ONT for Vodafone UFB on page 10. Then again i could be wrong im not with vodafone im just going on the installation guide from vodafone

Spark use the ONT ports, Vodafone use the RGW (the router)

Different isps have different implementations to provide a phone service.

Spark use the optical network terminal (ONT) which chorus install to connect you to UFB. you connect your phone to this to get a phone line when on spark and my republic (maybe a few others)

Vodafone use a Residential gateway (RGW) to provide the voice, the rgw is your router. you connect your phone to this to get service.

read page 12 of the link you provided.

what works for one isp doesnt work for ALL isp's
