Hi!

I have this problem.

I have a TP-LINK Archer C7 for my internet and WIFI connection, wich was connected to a cheap pstn modem-router, provided by my ISP, which was set to Bridge mode, so the TP-LINK could do the PPPoE and work as a router. And everything was working fine, till I desided to upgrade my connection to VDSL. So my ISP sent me a new VDSL modem-router, which is another one cheap s...t. I tried to do the same type of connection, so I set the modem to Bridge mode and connected the TP-LINK by ethernet. The problem is that I noticed that when TP-LINK connects by PPPoE, the connection speed is much lower, then if I set the modem to PPPoE and use the TP-LINK only as AP.What is ther reason for this, can somebody explain?

Sorry, I don't know the answer as to why. I am using a DV130 in bridge mode and am getting amazing speeds. I have also used different routers to do the PPPoE and they all seem to get the same good speed.
if the bridging device is the same then that suggests that there is something wrong with the PPPoE connection or the Router doing it.

MTU issue? Although with VDSL, doing full bridging this shouldn't really matter.

I have come across it a few times with Drayteks doing PPPoA-PPPoE translation for ADSL.

The thing is that Archer C7 is one of the top models of TP-LINK, and one of the more expensive, I gave 140€ for it, thinking that the next 5 years at least I would be covered by the router issue. And now the fact that I can't use it in it's full potential bothers me very much. I can't get any isntructions as to if using it in couple with VDSL modem needs any special settings anywhere in the net, and on the PPPoE tab of the router there aren't any.

Well quite honestly, how much you paid for the thing has nothing to do with it. And at the end of the day it's just a residential level router - a good one, but nothing incredibly outstanding.

So like I said originally, have you checked mtu settings? Who is your ISP? Most these days will support jumbo frames so you should be able to smash a full 1508 mtu on your pppoe interface. But not sure what the draytek could do along the way.

OP is in Greece, so their ISP may be doing things differently to NZ

I never said that it's something incredibly outstanding. But I mentioned the price because it's common sense, I think, that the higher the price, the better is the hardware and the more options has the software to set up to a particular task. If I'm wrong, I accept your opinion. And could you please explain what exactly should I do with the MTU value?

As far as for the ISP, as RunningMan said, its a greek ISP called Cosmote. And the modem they provide is this one
