Hi all,

We just moved into a rental and signed up to bigpipes starter UFB.

Without thinking about it I'd figured our modem/router was up to it but now I'm not so sure.

It's a Netgear DGN2200v3. From what I've read the two things I think you need are a WAN port and VLAN tagging? Can't find anything that tells me if this has a WAN port but it does have WAN settings in Netgear genie.

If anyone could tell me if this router is suitable? And if so how to set it up that would super.

If not happy to take recommendations on a router to purchase under $150-200?

Cheers,

I get that! I created a thread on my iPad maybe after a couple of cold ones and also jiggered the title

That's an ADSL modem, it doesn't have an ethernet WAN (wide area network i.e the internet) port. It's also likely to be underpowered for a fibre connection.

Fairly certain Bigpipe don't normally provision a tagged connection, so you shouldn't need a router that can VLAN tag the WAN. If you are not particularly technically minded, the Bigpipe supplied router is probably a good one to go for.

Excellent! Thanks a lot for the help.

I'd figured it wouldn't work but just wanted someone else to let me know too.w as sure it didn't have a WAN port that was added to the DGN2200v4.

Bigpipes router will take 5 days to come if I order it so thinking I'll go into JB Hi-Fi tomorrow whilst in Wellington city to find something to hook up to get online before the weekend. Any suggestions on what to buy if I go retail shopping?

Try PB Technologies on Vivian St. They will have a much better selection than JB Hi-Fi

yo, it will do a fibre connection,

but its only wireless n, which in real life gives you 30/30 speeds

if you get a ac kit, you will get real life 100/50 speeds

i reccommend asus and netgear, very good firmware.

cheers

steve.

Bigpipe don't use VLAN tagging.
If the router does have VLAN tagging you can just make sure it's turned off.

I got an Tp-link Archer c7. They are around the $200 mark ($196 at pbtech) and it has pretty good coverage.
Works great on bigpipe UFB.

Edit: looks like it has a wan port you can hook your ufb into:

Hi All,

Ended up going down to PBtech on Friday and picked up a TPLink archer C2. Didn't need to additional wireless performance of the higher models as hard wiring main items (computer and xbox). Managed to get in just before they had their black Friday sale luckily as the line stretched around the block!

For anyone's reference, as far as I could tell the DGN2200v3 doesn't have a WAN port, the newer model DGN200v4 (or N300) has one of the Ethernet ports double as a WAN. Even if I was wrong was just easier to cough up another $110 for a router that would plug and play so I could get online for the weekend!

Very happy with it so far and just wanted to get something cheap and cheerful that will do everything needed. Just saw the Netgear Nighthawk X10 which I might look into further at a later date as a proper upgrade. Already have a Plex lifetime pass and been thinking for a while about setting up a NAS for media. That's a project for another day I might be returning to these boards for help with.

Thanks everyone for your help,

Liam
