hey I have a spare SkyLink WiFi AP that I want to setup as an AP (Model AirLink Air 4400)

Does anyone know what the default username/password that Sky has set on the AP?

Has anyone had any luck logging into one of these and configuring as an extender?

Sorry I forgot to put, I have tried the usual, admin:admin, admin:password, admin:Sky, etc. I am thinking of attaching a machine to a switch when I have a spare switch and hooking the ap and the sky with a pc into the switch and seeing if I can try capture the username/password that way but thought I would try in the forums first when waiting on a switch

The device is a wireless bridge, not an AP. Secondly it's locked down and Sky do not hand out the password as all configuration is done via the MySky remote.

I'm confused by what you're trying to do. A switch is of absolutely no use and isn't going to help you in any way. If you've got the knowledge to try Wireshark in the hope of capturing any traffic between the Sky box and bridge you need a hub, not a switch. If it used HTTP for the traffic and used anything other than open text or basic auth then you're not going to get far.

I have looked into the original model which can be used as a range extender. I am thinking as the sky box connects to the wireless ap and is configured via Lan, I am assuming it is via http responses so I f I add a switch and a pc in between the sky box and the wireless then I should hopefully be able to capture the login and see how it is signing in.

It's not signing in.

As explained above a switch isn't going to be of any use.

An extender is also not an AP. If you want an AP you'll need to buy one.

Some better switches have the option of setting up a mirror port so you can see what is happening on another port. My 16 port WebSmart switch does this.

I doubt it would be going over http - it is probably either

- Sky custom firmware which specifically runs it as a bridge or Natting client router and some custom way of communicating with the mysky box

- Using ssh or telnet rather than http if it does still run standard firmware

For anyone that is interested, it is advertised as a wireless extender or client bridge.

You can however use it as a wireless access device.

Plug it into your skybox and configure it up with the correct wifi AP and password.

Then you an unplug it and plug it in to any old pc/laptop without wifi and it will work.

I think it is only working in bridge layer 2 mode.

11n 2.4ghz only.

I have one of these Sky branded Airlink devices and managed to configure it as you are wanting by using the WPS button. I first pressed the WPS button on the Airlink and then on the router. After a couple of attempts it worked! Of course your router needs to have the WPS function.

There are just over 11,000 possible combinations with WPS so it is extremely easy to crack and should never be used.
