I have a bluetooth modem and am running XP SP2.

I successfully add the modem and all works well. Then I'll boot into a second partition (for work) and add the device, works ok.

I reboot back to the original partition but cannot connect to DUN using the modem:

If this is a dial-up connection, the COM port that the network connection attempted to use is already in use by another active network connection or another process...

If I remove the bluetooth device (give it a few minutes!) and then re-add, re-pair and try again, all is well. But I have to do this each time I use a different partition.

Has anyone else had similar problems?

When you pair the Bluetooth dongle with your phone on your first partition, the key created to authenticate the connection is based on MAC address, PIN entered and possibly other inputs, like date/time. When you use the second partition it's like a new computer, and the software on this computer does not have the same key for authentication.

In general terms, pairing is not held between different computers, even though the adapter is the same.

Thank you for your reply.

I thought that the information on the modem was statuc (ie the passkey) and only the software (or o/s) would need to authenticate against the passkey entered at pairing time and passkey on the device. Is this not the case? Is it held on the bluetooth dongle?

Anyway, is there a suggested work around or do I have to remove/add bluetooth modems for ever and a day?!
