Team,

Appreciate your input into my situation.

I have "googled" what I what to do in several versions but to be honest need to establish what exactly what I want in the first place.

First my specs, I have 2 Degrees fibre coming into the main house (behind the fridge) (dont get me started) with that is the regular Fritzbox.

My plan is to use my old HG659 from my previous VF VDSL connection out in the sleepout so I can extend the wifi and use a printer out there.

Trouble is am I needing to bridge or just extending ? If so can I plug the printer (non wifi but can print when plugged into current Fritzbox).

I have tried bridging but it didn't seem to work and I needed to do a hard reset. I have updated both routers firmware to make sure everything I up to date.

There is lots on Google but I need to nail down exactly what is needed in the first place.

Don't use the HG659 get a proper AP for the job

I think you'll find that the HG659 provides no ability to create a wireless bridge, i.e., access point mode only.

Spark Max Fibre using Mikrotik CCR1009-8G-1S-1S+, CRS125-24G-1S, Unifi UAP, U6-Pro, UAP-AC-M-Pro, Apple TV 4K (2022), Apple TV 4K (2017), iPad Air 1st gen, iPad Air 4th gen, iPhone 13, SkyNZ3151 (the white box). If it doesn't move then it's data cabled.

Use 2 x Ubiquiti Nanobeams for the bridge. Then use the Huawei as an accesspoint in the sleepout.

How much throughput do you need in the sleepout? The throughput of the wireless bridge will be a fraction of the data rate so you need to ensure that the wireless bridge can provide the throughput required.

The Ubiquiti NanoBeam NBE-5AC-16 is only IP54 rated (limited protection against dust ingress and protected against splash water from any direction) so is not waterproof. If you want something to survive the New Zealand winters I would recommend an IP67 (totally protected against dust and protected against short periods of immersion in water) rated device or higher.

At this stage, I thought the sleepout throughput would be minimal. Maybe to service the printer, a TV/PS3 and guests devices so maybe I need a bit more than first thought.

I could run a cable but I will have to think how to get it under the concrete path.

So if I did run the cable, should I setup the old Huawei as a AP and that way my guests can use the wireless ??

Yes, if you run a cable, then Huawei could be setup up as a dumb Wireless AP + a few LAN ports.

As an alternative to running a cable, you could try powerline to bridge the connection over.
