Here's how to set up bridge mode on the Vodafone wireless modem. This method will give you full bridge mode as well as a reserved IP to access from another LAN port. This will work for VDSL, Fibre and FibreX, not ADSL or standard broadband.

Please note that this is for advanced users, if you're not sure whether to use this mode - don't!

 

1. Disconnect the Internet connection (VDSL or Ethernet to ONT / cable modem)
2. Connect your PC via cable directly to the HG659
3. Log on to the Web Management Page as Admin (not the default vodafone/vodafone)
4. Go to Internet > Internet Settings: Delete all of the profiles except the connection you want (eg VDSL)
5. Go to Internet > Internet Settings: Edit that profile, change connection type to Bridged, change Service type to Internet only (untick TR069 & Voice). It will show disconnected, that's OK
6. Go to Internet > Network security > Firewall: disable the firewall
7. Go to Home Network > WLAN settings > WLAN Encryption: Untick the 2.4 & 5GHz WLAN SSID on the WLAN encryption section. Doing it here rather than under the Basic Settings means that the physical button on the unit won't re enable Wi-Fi
8. Go to Home Network > LAN Interface: Turn off UPNP, IPv6 DHCP Server and DHCP Server (IPv4)
9. You should still be connected. If not, you'll need to set your PC to a static IP in the 192.168.1.0/24 range, eg 192.168.1.123
10. Go to Home Network > LAN Interface > LAN Interface Settings: Set a LAN IP, say to 192.168.200.200 that won't conflict with anything
11. Now if you ever want to reconnect to the router, you'll need to set a static IP on your computer to something like 192.168.200.100/24, and connect physically into the router, and browse to 192.168.200.200.

Do you want to connect a wifi access point to the HG659? If so, yes you can.

Goosey I suppose if all turns to custard after the changes a hard reset should reset the router back to normal.

Bridging the WAN interface on your router is NOT a solution to your problem.

What do you mean by "bridge the existing router"? This makes no sense. Are you meaning using your existing router as an AP as above? If so that's not "bridging".

A dedicated AP is always a better option than re-purposing a router as an AP. That always ultimately leads to tears.

Will the Ethernet ports still operate as a switch. I want to connect a Ubiquiti UniFi UAP-LR 2.4GHz N300 wifi to this so I have the range I need

Hi the grandstream is not available here, how about the Netgear WAC505-10000S.

I hear what you are saying that we will possibly need a server with a Ubiquity models, I would run it off one of the Ethernet port on the Hauwei HG659 unit.

I have looked and there is a company who claim to be an agent, but they appear not to carry this item

I see PBtech has them, the Ubiquity apparently needs a server because of the DCHP, I see the grandstream possibly needs one too. Am I correct?

The spark Hauwei router / modem (Fibre internet) where we will connect has a dynamic IP address, we have two win 7 PC's connected via the router and we want to communicate with 25 android devices
