What do you guys recommend for a decent modem that will allow me to split one connection into two - business is in the hospitality area so one side will be for staff and the other guest :)

Considering you need to ask the question, the Unifi platform would be pretty hard to go past.

Grab a Unifi USG + Unifi AP-AC + Cloud Key

The Cloud Key runs the Unifi server for you, and then from there you can set up a safe guest network with very little knowledge.

Just make sure you actually test the isolation between guests and the main LAN network after set up.

You could also go the OpenMesh route... similar product but the webGUI is free and you set it all up in the GUI... 4 x SSIDs with provision for connecting to the LAN (great for the staff side where they say share a printer or storage, etc) and complete isolation for individual users on the other SSIDs, including speed control, etc.

Either the Edgerouter line (if you're prepared to learn) or the Ubiquiti UniFi + UniFi Switch + UniFi Access Points.

Very easy to set up a guest network with UniFi gear.

+1 for the Edgerouter line, specifically the ERLite... I'd never used one before, and after an evening reading a couple of threads here, set one up very quickly and it is bulletproof.. WAN in one port, LAN port for the business side and LAN port for the rest... too easy.

What type of internet are you getting at the moment? ADSL? UFB?

And normally the router part is the part where you do all the VLANs and rules etc.

You would also want access points you can trunk VLANs too, and assign SSID's to those VLANs, and have the AP do the un-tagging.

No "modem" with UFB. ONT connects to router.
