Hi, I am trying to connect my spark ONT to my ipfire firewall.

I'm configuring the RED interface (the interface that goes to the ont) . I've tagged it to VLAN 10 and entered the PAP credentials as per Sparks guide but I don't know whether the interface IS DHCP or Static.
I have a feeling it's static, but then what IP should I use and what's the gateway?

Anyone have any clues? I found someone post on this forum way back in 2013, they were able to get it working.

Is it neither Static nor DHCP. It is PPPoE.

Still no luck on this 😣 does anyone have any experience with setting up pppoe on Linux with spark fibre, or better yet, using ipfire

Why do you want to use it as a solution? In all seriousness if you struggle with getting the connection up and working it's probably not the best solution for you.

There could be any number of reasons for it not working, including the possibility your hardware may not support VLAN tagging.

Thanks for your reply. I want to use it because it offers more security, intrusion detection, filtering and many other features. I like having control of my entire network and I don't trust the little huawei gateway to secure all the devices _inside_ my LAN from being nefarious, far less devices on the Internet.

Once I have the connection up and running, I'm sure it will be easy from there on.

The nic works with VLAN tagging. It's just a standard network card: "Broadcom Limited NetXtreme PCI BCM5705M_2 Gigabit". I don't see any reason why Linux wouldn't work it either, the 8021q kernel module is loaded, so too is the garp module.

The network config for Spark has been posted so many times it's not funny.

Any username and password combination (or no username or password) with PPPoE on VLAN 10 and receive your IP via DHCP / dynamically (even if you have a Static IP) it will work. If you need to set 802.1p marking it should be set to 0 or "be" for best efforts. If it's not then you need to look at your configuration and there is not anything more special to get the service working.
