Hi There,

I'm about to have fibre installed (been waiting seven years, I only live in Sandringham(centralish Auckland)!) and I'm considering an upgraded router.

I currently have an ASUS DSL-N66U which is located centrally in our house, and I find the WIFI coverage patchy on the extremities of our house - e.g. in the study or bedrooms.

Is there an all in one router out there that will provide better WIFI coverage than what I've already got? Is there another option that I haven't considered?

Thanks in advance for your responses.

Dave

If you're getting Fibre installed then consider an Ubiquiti AmpliFi. It is by far the best (for the price) general consumer all in one router that is easy to use. The price is justified based on the performance it gives and while expensive just remember it is a router you won't need to replace for years to come - Ubiquiti make very good wireless gear. Truth is, an all in one consumer grade router won't achieve what you're wanting however by the sounds a mesh unit will. You can get the Ubiquiti AmpliFi from PB Tech or Go Wireless.

DO NOT get sucked in to expensive "all in one" non-mesh routers from Asus and the likes. The fact they're refusing to send me these speaks volumes on what their performance is like (and when I've tested these I found them to be utter rubbish for the price). With UFB, you're able to replace the router that your ISP sends you with the AmpliFi and have it all running in around 2 minutes from plugging it in.

Thanks - I saw those in your sticky article and wondered if it wasn't the solution to my problem.

Another question - our house is single level and ~120 square meters - do you think I need to get the full AFi-HD version with the mesh points to improve my WIFI? Or would the AFi-R version (without mesh points) meet my needs?

Cheers.

One more question @michaelmurfy - does the Amplifi do static routes? I had a look at the manual and I can't see this option?

@saplam not at all. Not that it is really needed?
