Hi all, first time poster hoping someone can help me out with this.

I have an old school alcatel speedtouch 510 i got from Xtra back in the day acting just as a modem (has had firmware updated however), it connects to a linksys wrt54gl running tomato firmware, which in turn has everything else i own hanging off it.

at the moment its set up with double NAT - the speedtouch with 10.0.0.0 network and the wrt with 192.168.1.0.

I'm looking at setting up the speedtouch in bridge mode instead of gateway, and this is where i'm having trouble. I can get the speedtouch set up as a bridge OK, and according to everything i can find on the intawebs, you set the wrt up as PPPoE with your isp username and password (and this is apparently OK even though we use PPPoA here in NZ). With all this set up the wrt just wont connect, i'm not sure where the problem is?

Of course it works with the double NAT setup, but its not very elegant...

Hi, welcome to GeekZone, just to clarify, you can not use a PPPoE client in the WRT to authentcate on a PPPoA connection, you have been mis informed. You will require a half bridge, this is where the modem is essentially in bridge mode, however the modem performs the authentiction and then acts as a DHCP server to support a DHCP request from the WAN port of WRT to pass it IP details. Not many modems support half bridge, and I doubt the speed touch will, the Linksys AM300 does as do a few others, pity they are not very good modems, others may have more modem options as to which support half bridge.

yeah i'd discovered the same thing in the intervening few hours, I then discovered a fairly thorough walkthrough for PPTP here http://tjworld.net/wiki/Howto/SpeedtouchPptpBridge but this hasnt seemed to work so far either.
