Hi, need a little bit of help with a new router I have purchased. 

 

ISP: Vodafone with accompanying Sky Tv

 

Just bought a Asus RT-AC86U to replace the vodafone supplied Huawei HG659. I have hooked the Asus up to the internet no problem, only issue is that when I plug the Sky TV Ethernet cord into the Asus, Sky TV doesn't work. What is the issue here? Does Sky Tv need to be connected to the Huawei Router always or does it just need an Internet Connection? Or do settings need to be changed to allow it to work? Or can the Sky Tv be plugged in another way? (direct to ONT?). 

 

I assume other option is to Operate the Huawei in Bridge Mode, connect Sky to the Huawei, and let the Asus continue to do all the Wifi Routing? Although I don't really want to do this as performance may be compromised? 

 

Any thoughts and experiences will be helpful?

I'm confused.

 

A Sky box only needs an Ethernet connection for on-demand, there is nothing specific about it and no need to do anything different. None of your other suggestions are how you would hook it up (and none will actually work anyway).

 

Is your Sky TV box getting an IP address if you look in the router?

And just to clarify you have said you have a Sky TV box which is a box provided by Sky TV. My comments are based on that.

 

You're not actually meaning a Vodafone TV box provided by Vodafone are you?

If you are using a skybox (from sky) then it also has wifi built into it, try wifi to see if it works.  If you are using a mysky and plugged into ethernet then power down the mysky (i.e. reboot or unplug) and plug power back in (leave the ethernet cord plugged in).  

 

If you are talking about vodafone TV box then I am not to sure.

It sounds to me like you have a T-Box on Vodafone UFB.  Would I be correct?  If so, what is the error you are seeing on screen?

We may have similar problems 

 

have not been able to use sky box with wifi or cable for a while have swapped sky box today and no improvement

 

Sky tech says its to do with my vodafone ultra hub router

 

 

 

in network settings this is what i see

 

 

 

local area network ok

 

Wide area network FAILED

 

network name correct

 

Strength good

 

IP address good

 

 

 

So cannot do on demand with sky

Right, so. 

 

The Sky Tv is bundled with the Vodafone Fibre Connection.

 

Sky box is a HT500a (https://www.vodafone.co.nz/cms/documents/digital-tv-recorder/user-guide.pdf), connected to cable and to the huawei router. When I disconnect the cable, sky continues to transmit; when I disconnect the ethernet, the sky tv stops and a error message comes up. This must mean sky tv is coming in through the modem? 

 

What are my options here? Would Vodafone allow all data to come to the box via cable and not rely on fibre? 

 

Settings to change on routers/t-box to allow it to function?

Also - I don't have on demand sky


 
 
 

Move to New Zealand's best fibre broadband service (affiliate link). Free setup code: R587125ERQ6VE. Note that to use Quic Broadband you must be comfortable with configuring your own router.

For clarification you do not have a Sky box, you have a Vodafone TV box. This product is nothing to do with Sky other than carrying Sky channels.

 

Now that you've clarified you have a Vodafone box and not a Sky box the fix is probably quite simple. Vodafone deliver channels to their Vodafone TV box over the UFB network using multicast - your router either doesn't support IGMP proxy or you don't have this enabled in your router.
