Hi

Have had fibre installed and got a Chorus ONT type 300 installed - while this model can function as a router/WiFi device this is supposedly disabled.  Have noticed that on occasion the 5G led lights and using the on/off switch for WiFi has no effect.  This seems odd behaviour - any comments/observations welcome.

Thanks

it shouldn't be - run some wireless heatmap software, turn off your router but leave the ONT on, if you see a rogue wifi unit then call up your RSP and long a fault

The WLAN-5G light flashes on my ~1 month old Chorus ONT 300 model too, no SSID to be found when scanning so I just assumed it's normal

The 2.4 GHz light never flashes

Hi,

I have run a couple of different WiFi analyzers that don't see anything but could it listen without broadcasting a SSID/signal?  The WiFi analyser did pick up odd hidden broadcasts from the Spark Smartmodem (separate post under Spark Smart Modem thread....).

On reading online the state of many modems firmware. basic holes, poor security design (by design?) - even simple lockout or longer delays from successive attempts, blocking multiple logins,..... and when looking at buying a wifi modem/router many of the ones suggested were on alert lists with the vendors not updating firmware for known issues even after six months and researchers documenting hacking activity.

Cheers

This is for the Mesh Backhauling. can be safely ignored.

I'd doubt it's a gaping security hole
