Hi,

I have a Dynalink RTA1320 ADSL modem whihc I use to connect to the internet on my PC. I also have a Netgear WGT624 Wireless router which I have previosuly used to get internet on my laptop. However this was with a wireless internet connection.

So I now have ADSL and I can't seem to get the router to work properly and get internet on my laptop. My PC is trunning XP an my Laptop is running Vista.

I think I may have inadvertently changed a couple of settings I shoulmn't have when setting up my ADSL.

Could some please help me? If possible giving me step by step instructions on how to re-do my setup.

Can you please explain how you have the ADSL router and wireless router connected?

Hi. I have tried a few different connections configurations. At present it is PC - Router - ADSL Modem - PC.

First of all, they should be connected as follows:
Phone Line > RTA1320 > WAN Port of Netgear WGT624 > Computers are connected to Ports 1-4 or the Wireless.

Now on the dynalink - the best way to do this is using Half-Bridge mode, which Dynalink calls IP-Extension. Here is an excerpt from the manual:

1. Start your browser and type 192.168.1.1 in the URL box to access ADSL
web-based manager.
2. Go to Advanced – Internet – Connections. And click Add.
3. Key in the VCI and VPI value, e.g.:
VPI – 0
VCI – 100
Click the Next button.
4. On the Configure Internet Connection – Connection Type page, select PPP
over ATM (PPPoA) then click the Next button.
5. On the WAN IP Settings page, select Obtain an IP address automatically,
check PPP IP extension (and Enable NAT would become disabled
automatically) then click Next.
6. On the PPP Username and Password page, enter the PPP username and
password offered by your ISP. Select Always on, and then click Next.
7. Check the network information on This Internet Connection – Summary
page. Make sure the settings match the settings provided by the ISP. Click
Apply.
8. Press Finish.

Lastly, log onto the Netgear WGT624, and head to the wireless section. Look under security, and select WPA. Type a password of 8+ characters. Apply settings.
This will ensure that your neighbours or whoever cant access your wireless and 'steal' your internet without the password.

Just a point of clarification - don't connect the RTA 1320 to your wireless router until you've set it up as suggested. So with the PC off, connect the RTA 1320 only to the PC, boot up the PC, reconfigure the RTA 1320 making sure that you save the settings, shut down the PC and RTA 1320, then connect them as described. Otherwise you may have problems connecting to the RTA 1320.

Hi again....well I tried all of the above and it still doesn't work. I can get my laptop to recognise the network no problems. It is just the internet connection I can't get. When I click on the red cross on the network status page then it comes up with a problem with my DNS server.

And when I connect the way described above I can no longer get an internet connection on my PC. In order to get a connection i have to plug in the USB connection therefore creating a loop from ADSL - PC - ROUTER - ADSL.

I have to mention now if it wasn't implied that I do not have a wireless card on my PC so it ahs to be "plugged" in somehow for internet???

Please help.....let me know if you need any info on my computers.
