I'm having trouble getting decent wireless range with a WRP400 I got to replace my old Netgear DG834G (when I connected to Xnet VFX). Everything else works great, but the range is abysmal compared to the old router. When any my PC is roughly 15 feet from the router, it's getting a 1-bar strength connection (on Vista and XP) and random dropouts. If I position my old router in the same place, I get consistent 5-bar connection. I've tried positioning it in various positions around the house, and even outside the house, and connecting with four different PCs, running Vista and XP, with the same results. Even if I position my PCs right next to the router I very infrequently get a strong connection.
Both routers are running an unsecured, MAC-address locked B & G single-SSID network on channel 11. The WRP400 has firmware v1.00.06.
Does anyone know why I could be getting such poor performance?
Thanks!
Peter
