Hi All :)

firstly I'm new to all this and will prob get schooled, I have recently bought an ASUS ROG AX11000 router to replace my ASUS RT-AC87U router.

my ASUS AC-AC87U router is connected directly to my ONT and works ok and was looking for better range and newer tech so thought id upgrade, so I bought the ASUS ROG AX11000 router, it doesn't want to work connected directly to my ONT and provide internet, I know it doesn't contain a modem but I didn't think the RT-AC87U did either??

maybe there is something simple I'm missing or I made a mistake purchasing this.

Please if there is a way to config this to work for the ONT let me know, if not then just tell me straight up!

again I'm completely amateur and new to all this so any help is greatly appreciated.

Welcome to geekzone.

You will likely need to copy the settings over from the RT-AC87U to the AX11000

Mainly these 3

VLAN tag requirements which is found in LAN > IPTV

And if you're running DHCP/IPoE or PPPoE

If PPPoE your credentials for your ISP

Seriously I'd strongly recommend returning that - a single router isn't great for range. What you want to do is grab a Mesh kit instead.

That router is not going to achieve any better speeds, or range compared to your old router. You also shouldn't have to pay more than $200 on a home router or more than $500 on a mesh kit.

If i remember correctly, you should just be able to access the ROG menu, select LAN then IPTV tab and hopefully your ISP will be listed in there, select it and you should be good to go. (Still tweak the security settings etc)

However if you are trying to use the 2.5G port then you have to manually define in the menus (cannot remember where but its there) if its to be a LAN or WAN port. But If you're on Gigabit speeds i'd just use the standard port as marked on the back of the unit.
