I'm keen to setup an IP Network Camera at my house which I can log into when I'm at work.

At home I currently have a Xtra Static IP address of 125.23X.XXX.83 and I have a DSL-502T Router.

The Camera I am using is a Sony SNC-RZ30N. I can assign any IP address to this camera but only limited ports (1024 or higher) or the default port 80.

My work computer is also on an Xtra broadband connection. Therefore, will I be able to login at work and type in my homes static IP address to login to my camera?

I have attempted to do the above but no luck so far. I've rung Xtra helpdesk but they have been unable to help.

Previously I have setup my camera with an IP address of 10.1.1.5 on Port 1024
My homes Xtra Static IP is 125.23X.XXX.83 and if I type this into my homes Internet Explorer web browser, it loads up my Router login page. My Router is also set for 10.1.1.1 on the LAN side.

In my router I have setup my connection type as PPPoE/PPPoA and setup the connections login and password. The login being a (joebloggs.xadsl@xtra.co.nz) style login name. I have not specified my Static IP address inside my router, I've been advised that Xtra automatically assigns the same IP address to me from their end, each time my router logs on. This would be correct as the settings provide me with Internet Access from my home PC just fine.

In my router I have setup a Virtual Network (Port Forwarding) for my camera IP of 10.1.1.5 using start and end port settings 1024.

With these settings I have tried connecting from work but my work computers Internet Explorer does not recognise the 125.23X.XXX.83 address. It does not reply to pinging the 125.23X.XXX.83 address either.

What am I doing wrong? What can I try next?

You have to worry only about Port Forwarding. Don't worry about the connection configuration, password, etc. You have to make sure the camera is correctly configured to receive requests on a port, and on your modem/router forward incoming requests on the specified port to the device IP address on the same port.

Not sure if the DSL-502T supports port redirection but I would try putting the camera on port 80, and setup port 1080 to redirect from externally to 10.1.1.5 port 80 internally. What happens if you browse to 10.1.1.5 from one of the computers on your network at home?

Might pay to move the web interface (externally) from port 80 to something else just in case.

Dafecat: It does not reply to pinging the 125.23X.XXX.83 address either.

In the security options of the router you probably have ping (ICMP) turned off. Nothing really to worry about.

Okay, I have set my Camera to IP Address: 10.1.1.5 on Port 80.

If I web browse my network internally to 10.1.1.5, I can access my cameras web page.

I have setup an inbound filter that points all source IP adresses from port 1080 to a destination IP address of 10.1.1.5 on port 80.
But why port 1080? I have not programmed anything to use port 1080 as of yet.

At present if I type in my Static IP address from inside my network: 125.236.x.x (Yes, I'm Security Relaxed for now), I get my routers login webpage.
However, If I go to another Xtra PC located somewhere in the www and type in the static address, the address cannot be found.
I am so confused.

Perhaps this is a two stage problem.

Step 1) Seeing my static IP from the www.
Step 2) Port Forwarding to my Camera.

I guess I should really solve step 1 first as potentially step 2 may follow.

So why would an Xtra Static IP at my house not be viewable from another Xtra account PC on the www?
Does it matter if I have a laptop running at home on the internal network which is accessing the www through the router at the sametime as I'm trying to access the router from the www?

Dafecat, do the following, should help.

1) camera is set up to 10.1.1.5:12345 (or chose what ever port you would like)

1.1) type in in your browser at home 10.1.1.5:12345 to test connection to camera within your network

2) go to router and setup any port you would like to forward from external network to your 12345 on 10.1.1.5. (example again external 12345 will be redirected to internal 12345 on 10.1.1.5)

2.1) test connection to your camera from outside by typing your external IP:external.port

2.2) if some one or your could see authorisation page of your camera - everything is cool:)

2.3) can not see authorisation page...- follow everything again :)

No reason, you could pick 1234 or whatever, as long as it's not a port used by an existing common service.

That makes sense. You get your router's admin webpage since you are trying to access the router from your internal network. Trying to access your IP address internally and externally are two different things.

That would make no difference, PM me with your contact details and if you give me remote access to your router I can help you out (if you want).

I'm beginning to think it's possibly the router at fault, I've never had great luck with this particular model.

Maybe slightly OT. But that camera is insane! Did you buy it or just aquire it?
If you bought it you could have had a professional install with multiple cameras for the same price.

OK, I'm trying the above using port 1024. I'm not having any luck though. How frustrating.

Is there anyway that I can check that my Xtra Static IP is correctly working?
Shouldn't I be able to ping my router across the www?

I don't mind giving you remote access to my router. It's just that I'm not sure how to set that up for you. I can't even see my router across the internet. I haven't even got the firewall on. Any ideas?

Finally, I have it all sorted - Big Thanks to Nate!!!

I initially turned off the routers firewall, to see the router across the internet.
I setup a "LAN Client" with the Static IP address of my camera - 10.1.1.5 and named the host - IP Camera.
My DSL-502T router required the setting up of a Virtual Server: I used the default "Web Server" option with ports 80 and 443 (SSL) open.
I also moved my router from port 80 to different port.
I don't have any settings programmed under the "Filters", "Routing", "uPnP" or "SNMP" options.
My IP camera is also on a different unique port (Not port 80).

Seems that the above configuration is all that was required to get my camera working over the internet.

Once again, thanks to Nate beause I couldn't have done this.
