I had an electrician wire some ethernet cables from the router to a few rooms. If the electrician used, say, the T568B standard, do I also have to use an ethernet cable with the T568B standard to connect from the ethernet port (that was added by the electrician) to my computer? Or can I use a T568A standard ethernet cable?

Hi as long as the installed cable is wired the same at each end, then you can use patch/fly leads at each end wired a or b, as long as those patch/fly leads are wired the same at each end. And if there are two fly/patch leads (one at each end) they can each be a or b as long as they are wired the same at each end.

Edit, should note that the açcepted standard in Au/NZ is to use a, if the sparky used b he should be re educated. That said in NZ there are no regulations for data cabling, but there is in Au.

A&B go back to the days of needing to cross over, now days everything auto senses, I have wired since the age of 15 with A (starting on Green/White)

if one end is wired a and the other is b it while it is not good practice it will still work because everything is now auto sensing

if a device that doesn't a auto sense is still in use it should have been retired along time ago 🤣
