Technically challenged human here - need to find an affordable modem/router to run ethernet off Starlink connection so we can turn off wifi and only run on cable due to wifi gives husband migraines. Needs to be under $500

Hi. If you have an ethernet port on your slightly older Starlink, or have purchased the ethernet add-on for the slightly newer Starlink, just purchase a "gigabit network switch". No router needed. You should be able to get one for under $100, off the top of my head.

My understanding though is once we switch off wifi then it renders the Starlink router useless and you need to attach your own router - what I am unsure about is setting that next bit up with ethernet

You need to stick starlink into "bypass" mode and treat it as an input into your regular LAN router,

Not here to start an argument but WiFi also doesn't cause migraines. There are plenty of other things on the same radio spectrum as your WiFi network.

I remember once working for a mobile store and a customer wanted to return their WiFi router because it caused them migraines and went on to saying if they're around any WiFi router they get an instant migraine. I pointed out the enterprise grade wireless access point on the ceiling above them and instantly they got a migraine. Conclusion? Placebo.

If your husband is getting migraines like this then get checked out. There may be something else causing it but I can tell you now it is not WiFi or Electromagnetic hypersensitivity. There has been multiple studies over the years proving that fact.
