Hi there,

I have internet and landline with Vodafone.  I have two laptops (one mac, one pc) wirelessly connected to the net via Airport and a Linksys WAG54GP2 V2 router.  The telephone is a Uniden WDSS5315 - which apparently operates on a frequency that doesn't interfere with wifi (see the phone's specs here: http://www.ryda.com.au/Uniden-WDSS5315-5-8GHz-Wide-Digital-Cordless-Phone-p/wdss5315.htm)

Whenever I make a call or receive a call, the internet (usually, not always) cuts out for the period of the call and for about one minute after I hang up.  Then the internet comes back.  I suspect it's a frequency interference with the cordless phone - but I'm not sure how I should go about diagnosing or fixing the problem.  Perhaps change the frequency on either the phone or the router?

Thanks

Is it ADSL from Vodafone? If so, are you using filters on all your phone devices?

It does sound a lot like you're missing the filters.

I'm on the Red Network with Vodafone.  So that means ADSL2?.  Phone filters - where would I get one?  Does a phone filter sit between the cable that goes into the telephone plug in the wall and the plug in the wall?
Currently a telephone line comes out of the wall, to an ADSL inline filter (DSL-12MF-nz) which splits it into a telephone cable that goes to my telephone and a cable that goes to the router.
Thanks

That ADSL filter is the phone filter I was referring to.

Your router operates in the 2.4Ghz band, and the wireless handset operates in the 5.8Ghz band. Highly unlikely that one is interfering with another.

Does the fault occur when you receive calls or make calls? Or both?

It could be that somewhere in your house the wiring is crossing and blocking the ADSL signal.

Occurs both when I make calls or receive calls.  But is intermittent - i.e. it usually happens, but not always.
Is there a way I can check the band of the router and phone to make sure they are not interfering.  It hasn't always happened - I think both phone and router have worked together previously.  So the only thing that has changed is being upgraded to the Red network late last year.  It may have started happening then.....  Does that suggest anything?

It's probably a good idea to call Vodafone and get a technician at your place to test the wiring.

I had something similar where Internet was working (albeit very slow), but the phone wasn't. A technician came and found out a tree branch had snapped one of the cables (luckily, not the internet one).

Plug one of the machines physically into the modem and then see if the internet on that machine is interuppted  when you are on the phone.

This will clarify whether it is a fault with your cabling, or wireless interference, (from what you have said I suspect it is a wiring issue, but best to rule out the easy fixable problem first)
