Hey guys
I have searched around and not found what i want but if all this has been posted before i apologise.

I have a Dlink DI Series modem with that then goes through a wireless router to me comp. I have tried using u torrent but like others i have speeds of aroun 10kb which is hell slow for my connection. i have read a million port forwarding things but am still unsure. Is this what i need to do. how does this effect my flatmates who use the network. how do i even go about this.

Go here for a start http://portforward.com/ .. choose your model router .. they pretty much cover every router in the world and follow the step by step instructions ... this wont affect your flatmates at all .. your just opening a port to allow that traffic, you might want to check and see if you have a static IP .. if not you can set up a dynamic DNS ... that site also helps doing that .. sounds complicated but a bit of reading and you will find it easy. If your router supports UDP you could just enable that in the router, and U torrent should see that and open the port it needs saves all the hassle

The problem is it sounds like the OP has two routers in the mix, the ADSL router and a wireless router.
This means that port forwarding will need to be done on both units to get the port on the PC open to the internet.

Yup, sure sounds like he has two units. I have the same arrangement too, simply because my USR modem/router did not have WiFi builtin. I was given a Linksys WiFi router/AP at a later stage.

The question is, why would you need NAT on both devices? If the WiFi AP is behind the modem/router then surely you can disable NAT on the WiFi, right? That's what I've done and simply forward everything to/from the USR straight through the Linksys, including DHCP, etc. I simply ignore the WAN port of the Lnksys. As long as you enable WiFi security everything should be hunky dory.

My 10c worth... I'm not a particularly good sys/network admin so I'm more than happy to be corrected.

Hey... I have the same set up with my Orcon connection.. I have a Dynalink RTA1230 connected to the phone line and after this I have a Wireless router (TP-Link TL-WR642G). I have tried several things to forward the port but I am still unsure how to achieve this.
I have created a static ip in my PC but, do I also have to set a static ip or my wireless router? and do I have to forward the port from the Dynalink to my laptop o to the wireless router.

I was able to do this when I was connected by cable to the modem by now with the wireless thing everything gets complicated. Could you give me a hand?

I portforwarded my limewire and it works like a dream. But I want to know if other people notice massive improvements when they port forward.

Hey guys
Thanks for the tips. I worte my info down wrong i have a belikin modem which then goes through a d link wireless router. So because of that i am assuming that i will have to do it through both. Will look at it after the weekend and see if it works when hooked with a cable to the modem and then with the wireless. Thanks for the info guys. Hope i can sort it out.

Hey guys

I enabled pnp but it did nothing
so i followed port forwarding website and i have a static ip and all that done. now that i am in the 10.1.1.1 page for the modem i cant find where to put the info. any one know. it does not have virtual server as the web page says to look for.

the only other thing is just whether i have to do anything about having a seperate wireless router from my belkin modem
