I am running Win XP SP3 which has been upgraded from XP2 (not as OEM)

I have a bluetooth dongle which will install and bring up the required icon in the status bar but I need access to the bth.ini and othe rbth files to fix some problems and to get it to work with my nokia phone.

Unfortunately there are no files bth*.* on my machine.

I still have the original SP2 disk which has a heeap of them on it. How can I add/install bluetooth onto my macine? It doe not appear as an option in "add component" and I have tried repair too.

I think these files are only installed with a third party Bluetooth stack, not the Microsoft one. You probably have instructions that assume you are using one those other software.

Thnaks for the responce. However, without any bth*.* plug and play does not seem to work. Will not even identify dongle as a bluetooth device.

what model is the dongle?

Quandum,

Its a generic dongle but the software is Blue Manager, the driver is ISSC EDR, phone, Nokia 6310i, PC Win XP SP3

+ can you tell me if you have any unknown devices in control panel, when you plug the BT device in. if you do, what is the device ID?

The files you need should be under the \windows\i386 folder or the \windows\inf folder, or the i386 folder on the SP2 disk?

Thanks for your help. Despite a month's searching I did not find both of those.

I was able to install the dongle by NOT using the provided software but letting windows find it ( took quite a while on dial-up) and the tips in the articles have helped get it all working. Only problem is I now find the the version of Bluetooth in my Nokia 6310i does not work well and an update is required. To make matters worse the Nokia software updater says what the latest software is but won't let me download it. Nokia in Chch want $50* to install it so I'll see if I can fina a cable somewhere cheap.

What kinda cable do you need? I've got a few spare, happy to mail you one if you like - flick me a message? I think a DKU-3 or DKU-5 it is called.

I was able to find one by doing a broadcst e-mail around work. I am now connected by cable.
