Hi

I have been using a Billion 7500g wireless router/modem for over 12 months and it is a great product, with no problems until recently, when I tried to implement encryption. My home network consists of 2 PCs one wirlessly linked to the Billion and the other by ethernet cable. I also have a Macintosh ibook linked by wireless. I notice that I totally lose wireless signal somewhere between 3.00pm and it re-appears just prior to 5.00pm on Thursdays and Saturdays and Sundays. It may happen on other days, but I am not using the computers. The ethernet pc continues to access the internet and appears to have no issues!

I have a Foxtel satellite dish next door and a wireless phone in my own home.

I can't see from the AP configuration what I could be doing wrong.
Any help appreciated

Thanks

R

Welcome to Geekzone...

Very strange... If this started only after enabling encryption I would think it could be a glitch in the router's software.

Have you tried a total reset? Perhaps check the manufacturer's site for an updated firmware?

I returned a D-Link because it was freezing every 20 minutes and since replacing it with a Belkin I never had any problems. Perhaps it is something specific to this model you have?

Thanks for the welcome. Nice to be part of it. Learned heaps already.

As to my problem, I have only recently updated the firmware because I thought that this may have been the problem. I will reset in the morning ans see how I go.

Cheers

Could also be that some machinery is being activated at that time, causing a power surge? Are you using a line filter to connect this access point to the power?

Also, some access points have a feature that allows the administrator to restrict access between certain times of the day. Is tis disabled (if present?)

Hi again,

Thanks for all your help. As it transpires, I traded up to a new VoIP Billion router and the problem has gone away, so it must have been that unit's settings.

On the subject of VoIP. It is extraordinary. I have calculated that my total comms costs will fall by 50%. Having spare capacity on my broadband allowance and a desire to break free from Oz's biggest carrier made my decision easy. The calls are clear, no dropouts or interference with my internet surfing. One reason for the low call costs is the fact that my ISP has its own infrastructure in all Australian capital cities and a fair part of the state I live in.

Thanks again for your help and congrats on a great site

I am actually using Skype and the Dualphone. It is great - being free from my computer and still be able to place calls over the Internet - or the landline.

SkypeOut is cheaper than other services here in NZ, including ZTalk. I also bought a SkypeIn number in the San Francisco area...

Add to this my free YAC number in the UK (voice and fax) and I can be contacted by anyone in Europe or USA much cheaper than calling overseas - cheaper for me and for them...
