Hi!

This is my first post here and I've learned a lot reading previous posts. However I didn't find any post about the problem I now have with my D-link DBT-120 bluetooth usb dongle.

First of all, I've checked the hardware on another PC and it works fine

On my main PC, I can't install the widcomm stack correctly. Once installed I have the small BT icon in the tray that blinks from red to white every 5 seconds or so, and bluetooth is completely unusable (doesn't detect devices etc)

I've tried to uninstall, clean the registry manually (maybe I didn't clean it enough?) without success. So I'm looking for a way to reinstall the Widcomm stack without having to reinstall Windows (XP pro by the way).

I hope someone have the solution I've been looking for for days now !

Welcome... Is this DBT-120 connected directly to a powered USB on your computer or to a hub? Are you using USB extension cables?

Also make sure the USB adapter is not set on Power Saving. This will turn the power off in cycles. Hit the Windows Key + Pause/break key and check your Hardware configuration.

Hi,

A couple of questions:

(1) How did you install the D-Link drivers? Did you install from CD first and then install the 1.4.1.1 from the website? I encountered a problem with the windows installer using this order. Since I use Roxio's GoBack, I reverted my system prior to the CD install and just loaded the 1.4 drivers using the security key issued for the Widcomm stack. Everything was fine thereafter. If this was your case, I'd try a System Restore prior to the CD install, then just load the 1.4 drivers prior to attaching the adapter.
(2) Also, check a couple of things before trying a System Restore:
  • D-Link Bluetooth Utility
Right click on BT icon in system tray, click on "Advanced Configurations", check the "Discovery" tab and make sure that "Look for other Devices" is not checked. Also, under the Hardware tab, do you see a device (MAC) address?
  • Control Panel
In your device manager under Network Adapters, Bluetooth LAN Access Driver, click on this and under the "General" tab, is the device working properly?? and under "Drivers" is the version 1.4.1.1?

Let me know what you find out.

Thanks a lot for your help....

The dongle was plugged in a usb (usb2 hub from dlink also) and that was the reason it didn't work... I don't know why because it worked fine before. The hub is plugged to its mains adapter.
