Hi guys,

So ive read a couple of threads on here regarding the G604T but they weren't much help.

I got my modem free with the Xtra package and I've recently had a look around the net to fin the reason why the wireless conection dies when ever i turn on uTorrent. I think it is because the firm ware on the G604T isn't up to date. Perhaps it could be another reason - any suggestions?

The current hardware model is C3, and the Current Firmware Version : V3.00B01T01.TX.2007051.

I just had a chat to the d-link help line and apperantly the two dont match?

All I would like to know is whether my firmware needs to be upgraded and is there anywhere online where I can find it. I haven't been to find anything apart from V2.00.....etc. Which im assuming is an older version? Maybe Im wrong.

But yeah the Im actually trying to figure out why uTorrent kills the wireless connection when ever i turn it on. Because I have used uTorrent off the same laptop at another house with wireless and it worked fine. But at home its killing the wireless connection.

Any ideas?

Try reducing the number of connections in utorrent to 50 and see if this fixes the problem. If it does you can try increasing this until the problems occur again.

Most low end modems/routers can't handle a large number of simultaneous connections which can cause all sorts of problems, trpically that the device stops working entirely.

I am completely ignorant of networking etc but i had the same problem lately with my old 302G telecom freebie modem. I found a discussion on another forum in which another guy had exact same problem and general consensus was it had something to do with ADSL2 rollout, I re-signed a 2 year term with Xtra and received a free Thomson ADSL2 wireless modem, problem solved :D

As Steve has said, it is caused by too many simultaneous connections. Different routers can handle it to different degrees.
It will have nothing to do with ADSL2 rollout.

This looks like your model, firmware is newer than what you are running currently

Just double check it's a revision C

Also a Gen II

The newer firmware may or may not resolve the issue older routers have handling too many connections (due to bit torrent).

Setting sensible limits of the number of connections used in utorrent is generally a good idea.

Thanks for the replies everyone.

Ive tried limiting the number of connections to 10 on global & per torrent settings. Admittedly Im not sure if this is the correct settings to be configuring.

I open utorrent and the wireless still disconnects. Blaaahhh. Am i changing the right settings?? Maybe i just need a new router.

That does sounds flaky, I would try updating the firmware.

Yes you are changing the right settings but I would suggest 50 is a minimum, a global of 100 for single port routers. 10 would be waaayyyy too low as it wont be able to download very much.

Even if you set it to 10, you will need to reboot your router as previous the connections can still be in the NAT table / its memory for up to 30 mins.

Also make sure you are not running limewire or any other p2p programs at the same time. Limewire will idle at around 200-500 connections without auctually downloading anything, so if this is running in the background, it will add to your total utorrent connections.
