I have a Toshiba Libretto U100 Bluetooth enabled ultraportable PC. Does anyone know if ultrportable bluetooth speakers exist that will let me play music from the PC direct to the speakers.

Ideally the speakers would be something like the Creative Travel Sound 500 clip on speakers (www.creative.com) but would not require USB connection.

i think you'll yield a better result with USB connection and have it set up as USB Audio device and should automatically switch from onboard sound chip to USB audio without having you to configure. and being wired, it is easier to set up and doesn't have to worry about bluetooth audio dropout, which could happen quite regularily and mysteriously too.

I am not sure the Toshiba Bluetooth stack supports A2DP (Advance Audio Distribution Profile), the one that implements stereo sound.

Logitech released a wireless sound system for PC, iPod and other mp3 players. This one uses their own wireless system and plugs to USB.

There are Bluetooth options that also have small transceiver (plugged into sound out) and receiver boxes plugged into your own speakers. But I wouldn't say they're portable because of the overall weight.
