Hi team
Recently purchased a tp link td8840 to replace the old (and dead) d link 502t. I already have a TP link tl w642g wireless for the laptop. Now I can access the net with the desktop or the laptop but not both at the same time in the same house. What have I got or done wrong.

I suspect your machines are getting confused because you have two routers in the mix.

Connect the router/wireless ap to the modem/router in Wan Bypass Mode, see here for a guide:

Thanks for this
Finally got the time and the inclination, sick of the nagging, to get this sorted. We are now both able to access the net at the same time. However, as usual I still have a problem of the connection dropping off, which is why I bought the new modem in the first place. Is there somewhere else I should be looking. Dead inline filter etc or is this just a telecom problem.

The first thing you should be doing, is an isolation test. You will need to unplug ALL devices that connect to your phone line, and find the master phone jack to plug your modem into (or demarc). See how that goes first. If that works, then you can assume its internal and could be a case of, filters, phones, wiring and sky etc.

I would not use a filter with an adsl modem, unless a phone is on the same jackpoint.
