Hi All,

I'm very advanced in computing, but this I just cant figure out :P

I have a NETGEAR WGR614 v9 Router and a Broadband LAN Connection, the router is running NETGEAR Firmware V1.2.6_18.0.17NA. I am trying to open port #63976 for utorrent. I have a static ip (rather not specify) and I have set it up to look like this:

Now, I have saved it, windows firewall is disabled, but I have avast 5 and I have a Alpha sheild physical firewall. Utorrent is not recognizing it, I have even reset the router. I have looked through pages of google, and portfoward.com, What can I do?

Alpha sheild physical firewall - where is this sitting in your network ? I assume Router -> Firewall -> PC ?

All hardware firewall units Ive ever dealt with, are setup so the router is just forwarding all information straight to the firewall (like a modem) and the firewall sorts out forwarding etc there. So maybe youre trying to setup forwarding in the wrong device ?

nah, the network is wireless, so it goes like this:

modem>>firewall>>router>>computer

anyway, i read the manual for the firewall, and it said it should not interfere with port forwarding? I'll qoute it when i get a chance...

If you can't be bothered with static ip addresses or port forwarding and you have control over the machines connected to your router you can always enable UPnP.

When UPnP is on software on client machine on the network can automatically request the router assigns port forward rules dynamically when needed.

UPnP is pretty useful for p2p, gaming, instant messaging etc.

However it is worth noting UPnP is could be a minor security risk in that if one of your machines is infected with savvy malware the malware could request ports be forwarded via UPnP, then the software can act then act like a server on those ports.

I'll jack-up my antivirus and anti-malware, then try UPnP. I'll probably figure it out, but how do you set UPnP up?

You need to make sure that your forward the port on your modem to your router, and your router to your computer.

If you have done that. Check to see if your ISP blocks the port to begin with.

UPnP is giving me nothing but problems :(
its constantly going in and out, and so I figure I have to contact my ISP to see if they are blocking the port :(

If you have any other ideas, do tell
