I'm attempting to sync my:

  • Sony Vaio Z1MP with integrated bluetooth

  • Sony BlueSpace 3.1 software

  • Microsoft ActiveSync 3.7

to my:

  • HP iPAQ h2200 with integrated bluetooth

  • Microsoft PocketPC 2003

After pairing the two devices and telling ActiveSync to look out on COM4, I open the connection (either from BlueSpace or from the iPAQ) and ActiveSync pops up the message:

Microsoft Activesync does not recognize the device that is trying to connect. etc...

I do realise from past experience that Sony Vaio integrated bluetooth is complete rubbish. I have eventually been able to get it to talk to my Microsoft Mouse and my T610 though, so I hold out hope that it may one day work with my iPAQ too.

I know that any sort of networking or internet connection sharing is unlikely as BlueSpace doesn't even pretend to offer these services, but I was hoping that it may just be up to the task of syncing through the serial port...

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi there,

Sorry i don't have a solution for your problem. But the problem is defenitley with the vaio. Everyone has a problem to synchronise with it. It's just that Bluespace software that does not work or something....

Can you please tell me how you it is possible that you could sync your vaio and t610? It doesn't work with me. I can send picture/files to it, but syncing :( doesn't work.

I have the same problem, trying to sync my i-mate pocket pc with Vaio Z1

Bluespace seems to be the problem

Frustrating

Can we replace Bluespace with some other program?

Yes, it would appear Sony spent about 5 minutes writing their bluetooth driver and Bluespace software. Perhaps they are trying to stop people connecting to non-Sony equipment.

I'm not sure if replacing Bluespace would be enough. It may be a device driver issue. I briefly investigated the possibility some time ago but without success.

I'd be interestd in any solution you find though.

I have heard from Sony that they recognised that the internal Bluetooth device on the Vaio will not work with ActiveSync until they have fixed BlueSpace. A fixed version is due out shortly after Microsoft has released SP2 for XP (due in August 2004). Maybe September will see a proper solution??

@Stu,

I bought a New Vaio (S1 Series) that has also Bluespace. I deinstalled the Bluespace Software and installed the WIDCOM 1.4.3 software. There is a special guide for this, it's working withouth problems, you can use your WIDCOM Software to use

- Bluetooth Headsets (didn't work with BLUETSPACE!!)
- GPS Bluetooth Devices (didn't work with BLUESPACE!!)

Have fun! Should you have questions, I can help ;-)

After installing Windows XP SP2 I was able to sync my iPAC with my Vaio by using 'Bluetooth Devices' in the control panel. Just 'Add' a new incoming port, COM 6 in my case, by clicking on the 'Com Ports' tab. Remeber to change the connection settings in ActiveSync to the new port. Seems to be working fine now...
