I'm wondering if anyone knows free software that can show me bandwidth usage charts according to computer IP. We keep eating through our data each month within a matter of a week or so, which strikes me as extremely odd so I want to see if any of my flatmates are going crazy with downloads/streaming/whatever. We have a dynalink modem. Used to use this software called "TomatoIP" (or something to that accord) which was useful but only seems to work with Linksys modems (which we no longer have).
If you really want to analyse and possible block traiff or IP addresses, I strongle recommend you look at Untangle (untangle.com), which is a free piece of software that sits on a PC, which you place between your modem and the rest of the network (therefore all traffic goes through it).
Untangle has many features, including detailed reporting (by user, by traffic type, daily, weekly, monthly etc, including figures and charts) but also lets you block certain sites (porn, gambling etc) or traffic (P2P apps etc).
It also has built in virus scanning, spam checking, intrusion detection, ad blocker (so all users get ads blocked) etc.
However it does require a dedicated PC, but it easy as to setup (about 20 minutes after downloading).
You don't need anything too fancy to run it one, I am running a 3Ghz P4 (about 4 years old) for a network of 4 home users and get no slowdown at all. But you will need two network cards. I have been running untangle for about 2 years and would recommend it to anyone, especially situations like yours in a flat.
