Hello-

I am trying to connect my Samsumg WEP870 bluetooth headphones to my acer laptop running on Win 7 Home Prem. I revently bought a CSR bluetooth dongle, with which I am able to comunicate with my phone (it works!) using the default microsoft drivers - the ones that it installs automatically when u plug in the dongle.

The problem first arose when I tried pairing my lappie and the bluetooth headset - it said "unable to pair". I thot OK, may be its a software issue, so I will install the acer bluetooth driver software from their website (Broadcom 6.2.1.800). And I got stuck. I get a message saying "No bluetooth device was detected. Please make sure that your Bluetooth device is plugged in properly in order to continue the installation."

What I tried independently (one software at a time):

1. BroadcomBTW.exe - another bluetooth software by broadcom. Problem: Bluetooth not detected during installation.

2. Bluesoleil v6 - installs, detects the headphoes, but cannot pair - just like the windows default software.

3. Medieval Bluetooth network scanner v1.4.0.0: Detects the bluetooth headset, but cannot pair.

The phone, laptop, headset, and the bluetooth dongle seem to be working fine otherwise. There is something I am missing here... why is the Acer software not able to detect my dongle 8-| ?

Would appreciate any help.

Before it tells you the pairing failed, did it ask you for the pin number? If it did then did you make sure that the pin you entered is correct for those particular headphones? It's normally in the headphone's manual if you don't know what the pin is.

It shouldn't matter which drivers and/or software you use at this stage because they should all let you pair with the device. Pairing is a fundamental part of bluetooth communication and therefore all software must support this. However the software will matter once you've paired because certain software support certain bluetooth profiles and you need software that supports the profiles that your headphones use.

Thanks for the reply.

It does NOT ask for a passkey when I am using Bluesoleil, or the windows software. The only time it asked for a passkey was when I was trying the medieval software, but that didn't work either...

Do you know if it has to be in certain mode before you can pair it? I know that I had to hold the button on my Nokia headset for 8 secs to put it into a mode that let me pair it to things. Your Samsung headphones will probably be a lot different though.

Yea, same thing with samsung too... u hold the call button for like 5 seconds and the bluetooth icon starts blinking. I did that ... :(

The problemWindows 7 no longer supports A2DP for stereo Bluetooth audio. Manufacturers have now to supply those. If you want this feature you will have to use a third party driver or a Bluetooth software that supports A2DP and provides the correct driver.

Check http://windows7forums.com/windows-7-hardware/8235-how-add-a2dp-support-windows-7-a.html and see if it works for you.

Well, I was ultimately redirected to the same Broadcom software which I was having trouble installing earlier (mentioned in my first post) - here's a screen shot of that (this was with the bluetooth dongle inserted, detected by Windows and "ready to use")...

Tried the toshiba bluetooth stack this time. It detects the bluetooth headset, but when I try to connect to it, it doesnt work - it doesn't even ask me for a Passkey. Same problem again.

I can't sleep (literally) until this problem is solved... help!

and wtf is with win 7 (64) not having built-in A2DP support??

Earlier you mentioned that you were able to connect your phone via bluetooth to your laptop with the dongle you purchased.

If you connected your phone to your PC and it worked, then could you try connecting the headphones to your phone and see if that works? That should tell us if the problem relates to the headphones or to your laptop.

The phone connects to the bluetooth, and the phone connects to the laptop. So the Dongle, Phone, and the Headset, all three are "working". The only problem is, as mentioned above, the laptop detects the bluetooth headphones but is unable to "pair" with it. When I click on connect (or pair) it gives me an error message (something like "Operation failed") without even asking me for a passkey.

Some suggested that its the A2DP driver thats missing in Windows 7. I download the Acer (Broadcom) software BTW_6.2.0.4900 and it doesn't even install (see previous screenshot)...
