Hi there, I'm trying to setup a network connection between my Laptop and PC using USB bluetooth dongles, the main aim is to then allow the laptop to share the PC's internet connection. I plan to do this via AnalogX's Proxy application rather than using ICS, for two reasons; firstly I already have a similar setup between two PC's on the network and 192.168.0.1 needs to remain in use for those, secondly I'm using AOL broadband which doesn't allow ICS by default - hence the proxy application.
The problem I'm having is that even when the devices are paired and "connected", they cannot seem to ping each other and the proxy doesn't seem to function. I came across the XP SP2 issue described in other topics, thinking this may be the cause I followed the steps to resolve the problem, and was successful with one of the dongles using widcomm software. Unfortunately the second dongle is some nasty generic piece of eBay junk that was originally used for mobilephone connectivity. It came with XTNDConnect software which I'm loathed to install but unfortunately is the only way to get the drivers on the system, only it doesn't list a generic bluetooth radio device in the device manager after installation, instead it appeared to have some multifunction platform device - so I couldn't follow the steps described to resolve the SP2 issue for that dongle. It does seem to function with the Widcomm software and drivers installed, but unfortunately the bluetooth icon remains red even when the drivers have been replaced and it causes a few issues with functionality such as device detection.
So in short, I'd really appreciate some assistance in finding the driver or at least a functioning driver for the generic dongle, one that will allow me to get the bluetooth functionality up and running without the red icon/license.dat issue and hopefully one step further towards setting up the internet proxy. The dongle has a transcluent blue window in it's casing showing the circuit board within, and is labelled gigaAnt A5731-C. I have actually tried searching for drivers but only found requests for them on the DriverGuide forums. If neccesary I can provide a digital photo of the dongle, should the above serial number not be sufficient.
