Anyone having problems with Thompson Modem models TG585v7 and TG585v8?

Had a Thompson Modem T585v7 phoned Telecom told them that it is losing connection by itself. Telecom sends us a TG585v8 but this is just the same losing connection and also losing wireless settings once you reboot laptop, but this is intermittent. This is when you have to reset the modem. Also you maybe on the Internet when the connection from PC to wireless modem resets itself and same the with wireless to wireless.

I have read some other forums regarding the Thomson Modems. Some people are having the same problem as I.

Was wondering if any other users of these Thompson Modems are having the same problem in New Zealand or any other part of the world?

I talked to the technician at Telecom as I was wondering if they had a different brand I could change to, but they only use Thomson Modems for home users. The technician said the only way you could get a different modem is to change your plan to a Business Plan but that I would have to sign a 24mth contract. Blow that!

My opinion I say is that they should have a few modem options available for customers to choose from and that they should support the modem customers choose without changing plans.

We have checked everything in creation at our end and Telecom has checked their end and now we are getting a technician out tomorrow. The technician will be checking the fibre box up at the end of the street and he will then work his way back to the house to check for any faults.

Cheers
Woodee

In my experience ISP provided ADSL modem/routers usually suck and it's better to do you own research and pick and buy your own make/model.

However with that said are you sure it's a problem with the modem/router and not an internal house phone wiring issue or line fault?

I've not seen any problems with these before in basic use. But have just noticed that a friends new TG585v8 is exhibiting signs of wireless client isolation. Im unable to ping another laptop while connected to the WLAN but if i connect one machine via ethernet they can talk.

Does anyone know if these are capable of wireless client isolation??
